Hi all, I created an album where I will put a photo of each of the birds we see and list in the Big Year log. I will try to keep it one per species. I may update photos if I get a much better example of the species at a later time. As a group we can decide if we make this a shared album, where everyone can send images to me and I upload them to the album, or if we can somehow create a different place we can all share.

I plan to keep uploading photos to my other album “Birds we have seen in the Wild”, and I may start creating albums for storing multiple images of 2021 birds. I will use those when asking for help in identifying birds because they may show multiple views and provide more details. If I have any mis-identified birds please let me know!

I saw these small birds on my walk today (1/1/2021).I initially assumed they were Lesser Goldfinches, and since I had many photos of earlier ones  I didn’t really try to get images from other angles. Now as I look at the photos, and check Merlin Bird ID and Sibley I wonder if they could be American Goldfinches instead (perhaps “non-breeding” males or “immature”). Image 0214 shows the backside of one of them with wing details (close to an Anna’s Hummingbird).

Any opinions?

Sunday a friend of mine was walking in a nearby park (Seattle) and saw an owl (at 1pm) and told me so I zoomed over and found it! It was cold and wet so my binoculars were a bit foggy. It’s a barred owl. – David (2020 sighting)
